Do I have to have a referral from a Dr ?

You can self refer to psychology without a Dr's referral but you won't be able to claim a Medicare rebate. Some private health funds will pay a rebate even if you don't have a Dr's referral. So if you are planning to claim a private health rebate it is advisable to check the terms of your health fund claiming. You cannot claim both Medicare and private health against the same session invoice.

How do I get a Medicare rebate?

If you have a Mental Health Plan from your GP, or a referral from a psychiatrist then you may be eligible to claim a Medicare rebate, for up to 10 psychology sessions per year (from Jan to Dec). The rebate is currently $136.35 for a typical session duration. When you pay your invoice your claim will be sent to Medicare and you should receive your rebate to your nominated account within 48 hours.

What if we don't click or I want to stop therapy?

Your therapy is for you.  I will do my best to tailor therapy to your specific needs. Your feedback is always welcome, appreciated, and any concerns will be addressed. If you decide I'm not the right psychologist for you then either myself or your GP can help ease the shift to an alternative. Sometimes people do need to stop therapy or take a therapy break and then resume when they can.
